I bet that you have always looked around the Internet for interesting images and noticed how these well done 3D texts are out there, perfectly shaped, and mouth watering. In this Swift3D tutorial, you are going to learn how to create such an effect and even more! You are going to learn how to create your text, rotate it to a 3 dimensional distinct, and give it lighting to make it stand out on all. Here is a sample of the end result of our tutorial.

Object Setup

Grab the Text Tool from the upper panel and create your text. Choose the desired font that you would like to apply to your text. I chose Batman Forever for the choice of font.

Use the Text Tool

In some cases the text might be too large for your canvas. You can fix this by accessing the camera options in your left panel, and decreasing the Lens Length till you find it more appropriate. I have set mine to 17mm.

Applying Effects to the Text

Time to add some style to the text! From the same panel on the left, go to Bevells and set the Style to Beveled, the Depth to 0.050, the Smoothness to Smooth (Max) and the Mesh Quality to High (Max).

Rotating The Text

Now we are going to rotate our text and give it a 3D feeling. On the very bottom of Swift3D's user interface, you can see two spheres: The sphere on the left controls the rotation of the object(s) that we are selecting, and the sphere on the right controls the lighting of the selected objects. While selecting your text, move the sphere on the left to rotate your object to whatever position you want.

Material Setup (Color/Texture)

Our next step is to add a unique material to our text. From the panel below, select Show Materials, and go through the tabs on available types of materials to apply on to your text. I have chosen Glossy Orange. Don't worry, these materials wont look this gross when you apply them to your text. =p

To apply your desired material, drag and drop the material's thumbnail onto the various faces (sides) our 3D object, you can do that by dragging the material once on each of the positions illustrated in the image below.

Your can now render to acquire an image similar to the one below in Raster using the default lighting setup.

Lighting Setup

Lighting is an important step to most designers in the process of creating a perfect looking render. From the panel below, select Show Lightings, and go through the tabs to view available types of materials to apply on to your text.

As we have previously done. Drag your choice's thumbnail and drop it anywhere in the canvas. You can drop the lighting anywhere, as lighting is associated with the scene, not the object only. You can also Select/Move/Modify your light by using the right sphere on the bottom panel.

Rendering

On the tabs on the absolute top, choose Preview And Export Editor. Select your desired Output Options, and press Generate Selected Frames. Finally to export your render, simply press the Export Selected Frames button and your all done! Here is my final result.
