MySpace Music, the joint venture between MySpace and the big music labels, is set to launch this month, and almost certainly sometime this week. MySpace has spent the last few weeks briefing advertisers and the labels in preparation for the launch.

The new service will launch at music.myspace.com but will look completely different than the existing site. Users will be able to stream music for free, create playlists, download music from Amazon, buy merchandise and event tickets, and buy ringtones.

Google Chrome available for download

Google’s web browser is now available for download, at least if you’re running a Windows system with XP or Vista. It is a lightweight, fast, and pretty stable browser, although perhaps not as smashingly great as Google had hoped.

Google does a decent job translating Web pages from other languages, but machine-based translation is still not good enough for when you need a truly accurate translation. A new service called the Google Translation Center looks like Google is making its machine-translation technologies available to human translators.

Google is experimenting and will soon launch a new social bookmarking and commenting service that is much like Digg, but will work on any keyword. This may change the way SEO is done and I can already see hordes of fakers trying to manipulate the system.

It’s like the beast that won’t go away. As long as Yahoo is in play and Microsoft keeps flubbing negotiations to buy it (or stringing Yahoo along, depending on how you look at it), AOL keeps raising its hand and saying, “What about me? What about me?” Time Warner would be happy to unload AOL to any taker—Yahoo, Microsoft, it doesn’t care. Talks may be heating up before Yahoo’s August 1 shareholder meeting, according to an unnamed source who got the story planted in Reuters, or Time Warner’s M&A team might have nothing better to do during the summer doldrums.
